Nice Shot Sports Photography (NSSP) was founded on the premise that youth athletes are generally not photographed as well as they deserve to be. Many parents do not have the proper camera equipment to photograph their children, and, more often than not, parents prefer to watch them compete without the hassle of a camera.

NSSP offers a simple solution. Since great sports photographs are products of fine equipment and refined skill, parents are invited to hire an experienced photographer with state-of-the-art camera equipment to photograph their children.

Nick Fradkin, FounderNick Fradkin, a Phoenix native and graduate of Brophy College Preparatory and the University of California, Berkeley, founded NSSP in December 2009. He is the sole proprietor of NSSP and currently markets and manages the business himself.

NSSP shoots for quality over quantity in sports photographs. After all, the camera that Nick started with gave him no choice but to do so. Until recently, he shot with a Canon Rebel XT, a low-end digital SLR camera that shoots 3 frames per second--which is laughable in the world of sports photography. Nevertheless, he persevered and photographed Cal Athletics with his Rebel, as a staff photographer at The Daily Californian. Today, Nick can shoot 10 frames per second with his state-of-the-art Canon 1D Mark III.

However, Nick maintains that the best action photographs do not come from "rapid-firing," but rather a process of anticipating action, planning a shot, and executing it at the right time. He derived his theory from that of one of his favorite photographers, Henri Cartier-Bresson. Henri aimed to capture what he called the "decisive moments" in humanity. Similarly, Nick strives to capture decisive moments in youth sports, whether they consist of the moment that an athlete strikes a baseball with a bat or offers a brief smile from the outfield. It is the mission of NSSP to capture these decisive moments in pictures for parents and their young athletes.

To meet professional standards, Nick arms himself with the best lenses and digital imaging software available. He typically shoots with a Canon f/2.8 70-200mm IS lens, occasionally using his 2x extender for field sports and his f/2.8 28-70mm lens for wider shots. He edits his photographs to perfection in Adobe Photoshop CS3.
